Chess Club
Learn how to play chess and compete against kids at your skill level!
K - 5th eligible to participate with 66 spots (first come, first served)
$260 tuition for fall semester (12 week session)
Meets every Monday (Sept. 8th - Dec. 1st) from 3:05 - 4:05 pm
Culminates in the opportunity to compete in a small tournament

running Club
Run with other Travis Tigers and train for a 5K!
3rd - 5th eligible to participate with 40 spots available
Beginning September 10th, practices will be Wednesday and Friday mornings from 6:45-7:15am on the Spark Park track
Culminates in students running a kids 5K on January 11th, 2026 (in conjunction with the Chevron Houston Marathon weekend)

UIL Academics
Represent our school at district competition in the following categories: art; chess puzzle; creative writing; dictionary skills; impromptu speaking; listening; maps, graphs, and charts; mathematics; modern oratory; music memory; number sense; oral reading; ready writing; social studies; spelling; and storytelling.
2nd - 5th eligible to participate, but not everyone will be guaranteed a spot

Mad about hoops
Learn how to hula hoop and perform hoop tricks!
K - 5th eligible to participate; 20 spots on K - 2nd team & 20 spots on 3rd - 5th team (first come, first served)

Meets every Monday (September 15th - December 8th) in the multi-purpose room
Culminates in a performance at an MLS game in Spring 2026

odyssey of the mind
Collaborate with your peers in this creative problem-solving group
K - 5th eligible to participate with a maximum of 7 students per team; teams require one or more parent coaches per “long term problem”

Cub Scouts - Pack 88
Pack 88 is a family pack made up of boys and girls from around the Houston Heights area. Along with close-knit den families, our pack hosts 3 campouts a year, Pinewood Derby, neighborhood cleanups, scavenger hunts, and raingutter regatta! We would love for your child--and entire family--to join us on our pack's adventures! Our pack is chartered and hosted by: SPJST LODGE 88 1435 Beall St. Houston, TX 77008
Boys and Girls in grades K - 5th grade boys and girls are eligible to join; parental involvement is required to help with meetings and volunteer positions at the den and pack level.
$115 annual Pack dues (sibling discounts available) + national dues. Scholarships are available.
Scouts are divided by grade level into dens (around 10 scouts of the same age), which meet 1-2 times each month at local parks, Lodge 88, or activity locations. Den leaders determine when and where each den will meet.

Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council
Join or start one of the grade-level Girl Scout troops and explore your interests, build real-life skills, and grow your confidence alongside friends who cheer you on every step of the way.
K - 5th girls eligible to participate, subject to space available in each troop (10-14 girls per Troop); each troop needs at least two volunteer leaders.
Costs include annual dues for Girl Scouts San Jacinto Council (currently $45), uniforms, and troops dues. Some optional events and activities may have additional costs. Financial assistance is available.
Monthly meetings after school (day varies based on troop), with additional weekend activities throughout the year

shakespeare players
Act in a Shakespeare play!
3rd - 5th eligible to participate
Tuition is $500 per semester

Spring Tuesday / Wednesday Troupes will meet weekly beginning January 13th / 14th through May 5th / 6th
Culminates in a Fall performance of Hamlet on December 9th / 10th and a Spring performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream on May 12th / 13th
