Chess Club
Learn how to play chess and compete against kids at your skill level! Beginner & Intermediate Sold Out.
K - 5th eligible to participate with 66 spots (first come, first served)
$260 tuition for spring semester (12 week session)
Meets every Monday (Aug 31st -Dec 7th, 2026) from 3:05 - 4:05 pm
Culminates in the opportunity to compete in a small tournament

Running Club
Run with other Travis Tigers and train for a 5K! Fill out the form here by 08/31/2026.
3rd - 5th eligible to participate with 40 spots available
Beginning September 16th, practices will be Wednesday and Friday mornings from 6:45-7:15am on the Spark Park track
Culminates in students running a kids 5K on January 16th, 2027 (in conjunction with the Chevron Houston Marathon weekend)

UIL Academics
Represent our school at district competition in the following categories: art; chess puzzle; creative writing; dictionary skills; impromptu speaking; listening; maps, graphs and charts; mathematics; modern oratory; music memory; number sense; oral reading; ready writing; social studies; spelling, and storytelling.
2nd – 5th graders are eligible to participate, but not everyone will be guaranteed a spot due to limited competition slots. However, we will try to find at least one event for each student if we can!
An interest form will be coming out later this month, so please keep an eye out for that and fill out if your child would like to participate!
Coaching sessions will be held starting in fall or spring depending on the event
Culminates in two competitions February 27th, 2027 and April 10th, 2027 by HISD

Mad about hoops
Learn how to hula hoop and perform hoop tricks!
K - 5th eligible to participate; 25 spots on K - 2nd team & 25 spots on 3rd - 5th team (first come, first served)
$255 tuition for fall semester (12 weeks) - sibling and teacher discounts available
Meets every Monday (August 31 - December 7th) in the multi-purpose room
Culminates in a performance at an MLS game in Spring 2027

Odyssey of the Mind
Collaborate with your peers in this creative problem-solving group
K - 5th eligible to participate with a maximum of 7 students per team; teams require one or more parent coaches per “long term problem”

Culminates in Houston area competition (2nd-5th grade teams) in February 2027, as well as a Travis Showcase for all grade levels in the spring

Cub Scouts - Pack 88
Pack 88 is a family pack made up of boys and girls from around the Houston Heights area. Along with close-knit den families, our pack hosts 3 campouts a year, Pinewood Derby, neighborhood cleanups, scavenger hunts, and raingutter regatta! We would love for your child--and entire family--to join us on our pack's adventures! Our pack is chartered and hosted by: SPJST LODGE 88 1435 Beall St. Houston, TX 77008
Boys and Girls in grades K - 5th grade boys and girls are eligible to join; parental involvement is required to help with meetings and volunteer positions at the den and pack level.
$115 annual Pack dues (sibling discounts available) + national dues. Scholarships are available.
Scouts are divided by grade level into dens (around 10 scouts of the same age), which meet 1-2 times each month at local parks, Lodge 88, or activity locations. Den leaders determine when and where each den will meet.

Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council
Join or start one of the grade-level Girl Scout troops and explore your interests, build real-life skills, and grow your confidence alongside friends who cheer you on every step of the way.
K - 5th girls eligible to participate, subject to space available in each troop (10-14 girls per Troop); each troop needs at least two volunteer leaders.
Costs include annual dues for Girl Scouts San Jacinto Council (currently $45), uniforms, and troops dues. Some optional events and activities may have additional costs. Financial assistance is available.
Monthly meetings after school (day varies based on troop), with additional weekend activities throughout the year

Shakespeare Players
Act in a Shakespeare play!
3rd - 5th eligible to participate
Tuition is $500 per semester

Fall Tuesday / Wednesday Troupes will meet weekly beginning September 9th / 10th through December 2nd / 3rd
Spring Tuesday / Wednesday Troupes will meet weekly beginning January 13th / 14th through May 5th / 6th
Culminates in a Fall performance of Hamlet on December 9th / 10th and a Spring performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream on May 12th / 13th

Robotics Club (2026-2027)
Learn how to build Lego robots! There are two opportunities to participate in robotics club at Travis Elementary.
Robotics Experience
3rd - 5th eligible to participate
Students will be grouped in cohorts of 6-8
Wednesdays 3:00-4:30pm for 6 weeks (alternate day may be added with enough interest)
$100 registration fee (PTA scholarships available)
Robotics Competition Team
4th - 5th eligible to apply
Applications are due by September 11, 2026
Students will be grouped in teams of 8
Thursdays 3:00-4:30pm through February 2027, with additional practices & Saturdays as needed)
We will need three parent volunteers as assistant coaches – no prior robotics experience needed! Assistant coaches will help students complete the presentations and research project
$400 registration fee (PTA scholarships available)
Save the date: Robotics Club Workday, Saturday, September 12, 1:00 to 4:00 pm. Calling all LEGO enthusiasts! The Robotics Club will be sorting LEGOs, building kits, and trying out robots. Open to any interested 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. Registration link to follow

Basketball Club (2026-2027)
Travis PTA is partnering with the Harriet & Joe Foster YMCA, located on 1234 W. 34th St., to give our students new opportunities for team sports at Travis. Learn sportsmanship and basketball skills against kids your age!
• Registration is now open for Fall Basketball at the Y! Register by October 13th, 2026 and specify that you would like to play on a Travis team.
• Everyone is welcome - there are no tryouts.
• If you’re a YMCA member, great! If not, you can join as an Impact Member for $25 per month, in order to register for a league.
• $119 registration fee for Fall 2 semester (7 week session), plus $13 for a YMCA jersey
• Practice starts the week of October 19th, with games beginning October 31st and ending December 12th. Note: there will be no games or practice the week of Thanksgiving, and December 14th is a make-up game day.
• Practice days TBD at the YMCA; games will be Saturdays at the YMCA.
• We need parent coaches for each team that forms (no basketball experience required) - we welcome your help!
• We have created a Google Form to help try to match Travis kids onto Travis-specific teams. This is NOT a requirement to play basketball at the Y – we are just trying to help improve everyone’s experience in our second year.
