Soccer
Travis has a soccer team! This spring, the Travis Tigers (Grades 3-5) will be competing against other area elementary schools in the "Premier League" of the Heights Elementary Soccer League in a four-game series starting right after spring break. While we would love to have a spot for all interested athletes, the League limits the size of the roster to 16.
Practices will be held on campus on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30-5:30pm, beginning Wednesday, February 25. Four games will be held at 4pm or 5pm offsite at Memorial Park on Wednesdays beginning Wednesday, March 18. (Practices will not be held on game days.)
We are also looking for volunteers to help with coaching, assist with tryouts, assist with practices and games, and serve as referees. Sign up here!
Tryout Details:
There are two try-out opportunities: Wednesday, February 18 or Thursday, February 19 from 4:30-5:30pm at school.
We are aiming to have a distribution of athletes across all three grades (3rd, 4th, and 5th).
Tryouts will consist of a series of scored drills.
We are looking for skills, as well as eagerness to learn and good sportsmanship.
Team Obligations:
All athletes must maintain good academic and behavioral standing at school to participate.
All athletes must attend all practices and games, to be held on Mondays and Wednesdays beginning February 25 (detailed schedule below).
Families of athletes selected for the team will be asked to pay a $30 registration fee, which will cover the uniform jersey and team supplies. Scholarships are available.
Athletes will supply their own black socks and shorts, in addition to shin guards and cleats.

Basketball
Travis PTA is partnering with the Harriet & Joe Foster YMCA, located on 1234 W. 34th St., to give our students new opportunities for team sports at Travis. Learn sportsmanship and basketball skills against kids your age!
Register by January 5th, 2026 and specify that you would like to play on a Travis team
Everyone is welcome - there are no tryouts
Sinclair ES is the other HISD school using this model so far (that we know of)
If you’re a YMCA member, great! If not, you can join as an Impact Member for $25 per month, in order to register for a league.
$129 registration fee for winter semester (7 week session), plus $13 for a YMCA jersey

Practice starts the week of January 12th, with games beginning January 24th and ending February 28th
Practice days TBD at the YMCA; games will be Saturdays at the YMCA
We need parent coaches for each team that forms (no basketball experience required) and alternate places to practice - we welcome your help!
