President’s Message

Hello Travis Community!

Our first week has been amazing as our teachers and staff welcomed back over 750 students and ushered in the start of another wonderful school year. A big shout out to everyone who joined us for Meet the Teacher and our Watermelon Social last Friday- we had record Spirit Store sales and endless smiles from our tiny tigers excited to join team Travis!

A heartfelt “we see you” and “thank you” to some of our teachers and staff riding the rollercoaster of AC issues this week - our admin team is working hard to finalize repairs and everyone’s flexibility and help is so appreciated. PTA will be saying “thanks a latte” tomorrow for this and so much more with donated coffee beverages (cold too!) from our wonderful community!

We also see teachers and staff rocking the arrival and dismissal operations for car line, walkers, parent pick up and grade door drop-offs. A reminder to anyone dropping off or picking up students in the car line to follow the rules outlined here and to please be respectful role models for our children. Safety is the number one priority and we love our Travis team out there hustling so let’s show them our appreciation!

Finally, if you have questions, want to get more involved or just want to be “in the know” for all things happening here at Travis, make plans now to join your PTA for our first general meeting of the year next Friday, August 23rd @7:30a in the library. Coffee and Kolache Shop goodies will be served!

. . . and don’t forget, all Travis parents and families are encouraged to show your Travis pride and officially join the Travis PTA - let’s show our strength in numbers and be the top PTA in the region!

First Travis PTA Meeting

Mark your calendars for our first Travis PTA Meeting! We will meet on Friday, August 23rd in the library after morning drop-off. Kolache Shoppe has graciously donated delicious kolaches. We hope you can join us!

Room Parent Orientation

If you have received official confirmation from your teacher that you will be a room parent for your child’s homeroom, please plan to attend this brief orientation on Tuesday, August 27th at 7:30am in the library. We will discuss room parent roles and responsibilities. This is also a great chance to ask questions and connect with other room parents in your child’s grade level.

Travis Spirit Night - Gabby’s BBQ

Don’t feel like cooking tonight? Help our school by dining in or ordering take-out from Gabby’s BBQ on N. Shepherd! Show this flyer or mention Travis Elementary to earn our school 15% of sales for Tuesday, August 27th, from 11am - 9pm. Thanks Gabby’s BBQ and go Travis Tigers!

Reminder: Labor Day and Staff PD Day

A quick reminder that there will be no school on Monday, September 2, 2024, in honor of Labor Day, and no school on Tuesday, September 3, 2024. See everyone back bright and early on Wednesday, September 4, 2024.

Travis Open House

Travis parents & students: Tour your Tiger’s classroom and enrichment classes from 5:30-6:30pm on Tuesday, September 10th. PTA will be on hand with light concessions and spirit store items for sale.

Hospitality Shoutout of the Week

Travis PTA would like to give a BIG thank you to neighborhood businesses that give us discounts and donations for our various events. Thank you to Torchy’s Tacos, Local Foods, and Uncle Bean’s Coffee for the generous discount on their delicious food and coffee. We appreciate their continued support!

Meet Your PTA!

PTA Board is proud to present our Environmental Co-Chairs, Katherine Robinson and Kasey Todd. Kasey is mom to second and fifth graders, Caroline and Lucy and a calico cat, Celeste.  In her free time, she is a home gardener and bookworm. Katherine has two children at Travis. Max is in 2nd grade and his little sister, Margot, is in Kindergarten. They support Ms. West and Ms. Knox on weekdays in the garden with general maintenance including watering, weeding, and preparing beds. They will also organize weekend work days periodically throughout the school year. Please reach out to them at environmental@travispta.org if you would like to occasionally volunteer with these gardening efforts! Note: your classroom teacher will organize garden volunteer opportunities with the class, separately from the environmental committee.
