House Bill 3 (HB3) was recently proposed in the Texas House of Representatives to reallocate funding for public education. Texas PTA supports the HB3 bill because it would raise the basic per student allotment for all public schools. However, unlike the current state plan, it removes funding for Gifted and Talented programs and services. Travis PTA is encouraging parents to contact district representative or senators and tell them to remove mention of the G/T allotment (Section 42.156) from the list of Texas Education Code sections up for repeal within Article 3, Section 3.001 of House Bill 3. Want to read HB3 (yeah, you do!) - check it out here. The bill will be on the floor Wednesday, April 3rd, so contact your representatives immediately before Wednesday.
You can check which district you reside here, or contact your senator directly. If you already know your district, refer to the contact information below, or use the sample letter template provided on Texas Association for Gifted and Talented.
