Two weeks ago we learned that Travis PTA was one of eleven schools chosen as a recipient of the National PTA STEM Families Game Night Giveaway of two STEM-themed game pack sets, which students at Travis will be able to use in class. We are thankful to be chosen and hope the game packs will provide educational enrichment for Travis students now and in the future.
On behalf of the Travis PTA, thanks to everyone who made STEM Night an exciting, educational event and to all of you who came to enjoy our STEM activities. Our incredible Travis teachers created many energetic and interactive booths for students, and Professor Plutonium of Nutty Scientists of Houston provided a fun and stimulating show. We were graced with several booths from Travis family members: microbiologist Vivian Reisinger and Vanessa Barrow, DPM, and Travis parent Kerri Snyder obtained the “Dream Big” engineering movie for us at no cost to Travis. Kelly Hartman and Julie O’Sullivan from Methodist Research Institute guided students with slime and Beth Kosobud from NASA showed how astronauts prepare for space flight. Dr. Angeline Nguyen and Dr. Ashton Ehlers from UH College of Optometry had some exhibits that demonstrated that what we think we see isn’t what our brain tells us we see, and Ms. West shared about the new Monarch grant Travis has received. Thanks also to Girl Scout Brownie troop 122286 and Den 11 of Troop 30 of the Boy Scouts for their thoughtful and fun booths. This evening represents all that is great about STEM at our school and is another example of your PTA funds hard at work to provide educational content.
