OCTOBER IS NATIONAL BULLYING PREVENTION MONTH

The Violence Prevention Works! Website  reports that bullying is a serious issue that negatively impacts the lives of school-age children throughout the United States. Sobering statistics indicate that nearly 1 in 5 students report being the victim of bullying. This behavior not only impacts the direct recipient of these actions but also has an adverse effect on bystanders and the overall climate of the school and community.

October is National Bullying Prevention month, a time when we as parents, teachers, and students can work together to increase awareness and reduce the occurrence of bullying on our campus. The internet is chock-full of great resources to help parents recognize the symptoms of bullying and suggestions for dealing with the children affected by this phenomenon. A great place to start includes the Violence Prevention Works! Website. If you have questions or would like more information, you can also reach out to Travis Counselor Leslie Smith.
