News from the Travis Library

Collection Update
We have had a great start to the year in the library, and the students already have begun to check out books! At the end of last year, around 3,500 books were weeded out of the collection to make room for new and updated titles. The school has purchased $10,000 worth of new fiction titles, and a non-fiction order is in the works.

With new books coming in, the importance of taking care of books is a hot topic in the library. Please remind your student(s) that being responsible with library books is important. If they hear this message at home and at school, we can make sure our new books stick around for all to enjoy.

The library will offer two days each week after school to check out books. Extended hours will begin Thursday, Sept. 10 from 3:30-4 p.m. After Sept. 10, each Monday and Thursday will be after school checkout days from 3:30-4 p.m.

Name That Book Needs YOU
If you love to read, this is the club for you! A lavender flyer went home in last week’s Tuesday Folders with information about Name That Book and try-out dates. If you missed the flyer, let me know and I will get one to you.

Summer Reading Logs
Summer reading logs are due Thursday, Sept. 10! Please include your student’s first and last name, as well as his/her homeroom teacher. Students will receive a certificate for a ticket to a Rice football game and a reward from the school.

Houston Real Men Read
We hope to continue our partnership with the Houston Real Mean Read program. I am starting to gather MENtors for our 2nd and 3rd grade classrooms. If you are interested in reading to a class and sharing some of your talents this year, please let me know.
