Travis Foundation Approves New Grants

At the Travis Foundation’s May meeting, the following grants were approved:

  • Kindergarten received $400 to cover the cost of transportation for a class field trip to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Our Travis Kindergarteners will have the opportunity to explore the museum and observe, compare, contrast and describe the many art pieces created by artists they have studied in the classroom.
  • Sarah Gonzales, 3rd grade teacher, received $1,000 to attend a three-day professional development course, Investigating Number Operations in Grades 1-3, at Rice University in the School Mathematics Project from July 20-23. The course is designed to help teachers further develop their students’ understanding of the base 10 structure of the number system and conceptual and procedural understanding of operations with whole numbers. Upon completion of the course, she will share the knowledge she gains with her fellow Travis teachers.
  • Our 5th Graders received $1,000 to assist with "Moving On" events. These funds will help the 5th grade students commemorate their years at Travis and celebrate their successes as they bid their classmates farewell.
