Name That Book
Name that Book for 2014-2015 has come to an end, and our two teams worked very hard and gave it their all at competition. Our K-2 team members were Camila Ortiz, Sofia Salazar, Henry Gibbs, Olivia Metcalfe and Lily Hardaker. Our 3-5 team members were Kate Landaverde, Isaac Perez, Kai Weaver, Sanay Tufekci and Charlie Maddux. Each of these students read more than 30 books to prepare for competition and were a very dedicated bunch. Way to go teams, we are proud of you!

The list of next year’s titles comes out May 2 at the Name That Book Red Carpet Event at the Barnes and Noble on the northwest corner of Westheimer and Voss. Get a head start on reading if you are planning to try out for next year!

Women’s Study Library Initiative
The Houston Heights Woman’s Club has successfully put into motion its Women’s Studies Library Initiative benefiting all nine Heights area schools from elementary to high school. The goal of this initiative is to enrich school library collections with literature centered around bold and courageous women of the past and present in order to inspire young girls.

Travis Elementary was proudly presented 11 books at a March 30 reception to honor the Women’s Studies Initiative and its recipients. We are very grateful to the Houston Heights Woman’s Club for enriching our library collection and taking so much pride in the area schools! What a perfect way to celebrate Women’s History for the Month of March, thank you!
