WITS Camp Returns to Travis this Summer

Are you looking for a summer activity that could change your child's life? Our school is the proud host of the 25th annual Creative Writing Camp, sponsored by Writers in the Schools (WITS) and Rice University’s School Literacy and Culture. This widely popular camp provides a unique setting in which children can learn the power of words, gain practice in self expression and expand their creativity.

Students receive personal encouragement in small classes, which are taught by experienced teachers and professional writers. Together, the students, teachers and writers explore a variety of genres including poetry, plays, personal essays and fiction.

Field trips to local art museums or visits from artists inspire students to extend their creativity. At the end of the sessions, celebrations involving readings and/or performances by the student authors are held in all classes, and students are presented with their own copy of a class anthology or other published product.

The cost is $495 with fees discounted to $445 for each additional sibling. Online registration is available through the WITS website.

The Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented provides scholarships if you are interested. Their deadline is February 25, 2015.

Classes fill quickly, so early registration is encouraged. Visit the WITS website or call WITS at 713-523-3877 for more information.
