In this month’s Advocacy Class, the Tiger Trait the students will be talking about is GRATITUDE. Gratitude is the quality of being thankful, readiness to show appreciation and to return kindness. This is an important trait to teach kids.
Did you know the more people practice gratitude in their lives, the happier they tend to be? We can show gratitude for the people in our lives, the things we have and ourselves. Positive self-talk is one way to show gratitude to ourselves. Practice how to show gratitude at home. We can be thankful for something or someone, but how can we show that we are grateful?
Here are some ways to practice gratitude with your children:
- Keep a Gratitude Journal – Write down things each day that you are grateful for
- Perform acts of kindness and service together
- Model, Model, Model – When kids see adults modeling gratitude, they will be more likely to show gratitude in their lives
- Encourage optimism
- Make it a dinnertime ritual to discuss what each member of the family is grateful for
- Focus on the small stuff
- Talk about it at bedtime
