This month’s Tiger Trait is FAIRNESS. In Advocacy Class Wednesday, Oct. 28, students will engage in exciting and fun lessons about fairness. The students will discuss the idea that fairness is not everyone getting the same thing, but it is everyone getting what they need to be successful.
Malala Yousafzai is a person who exemplifies fairness. She has dedicated her life to the equality of all individuals. Students will hear her story and have discussions about the ways in which she shows fairness and empathy in her life. They will gain an understanding of the hardships she has overcome to accomplish her dream for equality of all people. They will make connections to their own lives and the world around them.
Also, in Advocacy Class this month, the students will be signing the Resolution of Respect. We have been a No Place for Hate school for nine years. No Place for Hate helps schools to create and sustain an inclusive school environment where all students feel valued and have the opportunity to succeed by promoting respect for individual differences. As a part of the No Place for Hate initiative, each year we sign the Resolution of Respect. For more information about No Place for Hate, visit the website at http://www.adl.org/npfh/.
Have conversations with your child(ren) about what they learned in Advocacy Class. Here are some questions to consider:
What did you learn in Advocacy Class today?
Who is Malala Yousafzai?
How has she inspired change in the world for fairness and equality?
What is No Place for Hate?
What is the Resolution of Respect?
