The last week of the 2013-2014 school year is upon us and I want to thank you for the part you play in making Travis Elementary the unique school community that it is. Your visibility, connectedness, volunteerism, and donations of time, money, and spirit – along with the passion and contributions of our dedicated faculty and staff – enhance our students’ personal growth and the quality of education at Travis. My first year as principal was a special one and I thank you all for your support. Best wishes for a safe and restful summer vacation!
A Couple Other Closing Items
We say goodbye this week to a few of our staff members who are moving on to other pursuits: Anne Goode, Jennifer Yeggoni, Kristin Alexander, Peggy Granger, Stella Mercker, Amber Davis, and Ana Davalos. I thank them all for their dedicated service to our students and wish them well.
The Scholastic Book Fair was a huge success! Chelsey Teske and Mayte Sanchez did a fantastic job coordinating the event. They, along with me, would like to give a warm thank you to Kroger, Shipley's, and all the parent volunteers who helped out. Read Every Day. Lead a Better Life.
The iconic dinosaur in the Travis Spark Park is soon to be “Yarn Bombed”! Urban Yarnage, an ad hoc group of knitters and crocheters in Houston that design and develop fiber street art projects, will wrap the dinosaur bones in yarn as part of a temporary art installation this Saturday, June 7. This fun and whimsical art project will be on display until July 5. Visit Urban Yarnage for more information and images.
