The first is from Mrs. Cress who applied for $648 to purchase Kathy Richardson's Developing Number Concepts Activity Cards, Sets 1 & 2. These cards will allow her students to experience numbers as they occur in the real world, which makes number concepts meaningful. All children need to count, compare, combine and take apart numbers using a variety of manipulatives. Working with these manipulatives will help them discover mathematical relationships and build visual images. In addition, Mrs. Cress plans to share these materials with all of teachers on the Kindergarten team!
The other grant application came in from the 5th grade teachers requesting funds for their classes’ Cavern and Safari trip to the Natural Bridge Caverns and the Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch. We granted them $1000 to give our 5th grade students the opportunity to see one of the most treasured natural attractions Texas has to offer and tour 400 acres of rolling hills, creek beds and witness the behavior of over 500 animals from 40 exotic, native and endangered animal species worldwide. Both of these guided tours will provide a sensory rich experience that reinforces multiple science objectives. Have a great trip!
