Dear Travis Families,
We are celebrating Red Ribbon Week through Oct. 31. Houston ISD schools annually participate in this national drug prevention campaign focused on educating youth. At Travis, our focus is on promoting healthy living choices. Drug awareness discussion is conducted in a developmentally and age-appropriate way.
For instance, classroom conversation in the primary grades might cover the importance of parent and adult supervision of taking medicine; while older students might discuss this, as well as the harms of drug use, and that joking about drugs is not appropriate.
We encourage you to review these themes of personal safety and responsibility with your child so that (s)he is equipped with the knowledge needed to make healthy living choices as they grow up.
Remaining Red Ribbon Week Spirit Days:
Wednesday, Oct. 29: “Win the War on Drugs” – Wear camouflage
Thursday, Oct. 30: “Team Up Against Drugs” – Wear team jerseys or shirts
Friday, Oct. 31: “Dress Up Against Drugs” - Wear your Storybook Character costume
