Dear Travis Community,

Happy New Year, Travis families! We hope everyone had a restful and joyful winter break, filled with special moments and quality time with loved ones. As we step into the second half of the school year, we are excited about the opportunities ahead to support our students, teachers, and school community.

Our Travis PTA is powered with passion, and we invite you to join us for a special gathering next Tuesday, January 14th at Grace Pizza & Shakes for a drink, light bites and an opportunity to connect and learn more about how you can be more involved!

Many of our top ideas and initiatives come directly from our amazing parent community and we are excited to match your interests, skills and time with dozens of volunteer opportunities. Help us get to know you better by completing this form and we will see you next week!

Third Six Weeks Report Cards

Third six weeks report cards will go home on Monday, Jan. 13th. Remember to sign and return them back to teachers as soon as possible.

Travis PTA Meet & Greet

Calling all volunteers! The current PTA Board is hosting a PTA Meet and Greet on Tuesday, January 14th at 6 pm @ Grace Pizza & Shakes. If you are interested, be sure to join us and fill out this Google Form with your interests. Most PTA Board positions are not elected, but if you are interested in an Executive Board position (President, Treasurer, VP Fundraising, VP Parental Involvement, VP Programs, or Secretary), these are elected. The process involves the Nominations Committee, which is an elected Committee that will vote on the roles Executive Board positions.

The Nominations Committee is responsible for presenting the best qualified nominees for office. Here is the timeline for elections for these specific roles:

• January 17, 2025 - Nominations Committee elected at the PTA General Meeting

• Late January to February 2025 - Nominations Committee receives nominations

• February 28, 2025 - Announce nominated Executive Board via Parent Square

• March 7, 2025 - 25-26 PTA Executive Board elected at the PTA General Meeting

• Late March to April 2025 - 25-26 PTA President & Executive Board assemble remaining team

• May 9, 2025 - 2025-26 PTA Board announced at the PTA General Meeting

Coffee with Your PTA - Jan. 17th

Parents are invited to join us Friday, January 17th at 7:30am for a PTA general meeting. PTA will be serving coffee and light bites in the cafeteria - please sign in at the front desk first. We understand if you need to bring a younger sibling or leave early for work engagements. Please join us for information and connection!

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

HISD is closed Monday, Jan. 20th as we celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. See everyone back Tuesday, Jan. 21st.

Travis Variety Show

We are proud to announce that the Annual Travis Elementary Variety Show is back!!!!! The Variety show will take place on Thursday, March 27th at 6 p.m. Students are invited to show off their special talents and skills with our Travis family and friends.
 
Auditions are open to students in all grades. All students who wish to participate are required to audition prior to the Variety Show. Students may audition in groups or alone. Each student is only allowed to audition one time.  In the audition process, the students will be judged on such qualities as delivery, stage presence, and creativity. Approximately 20 student acts will be chosen to perform in the Variety Show. Each act must not exceed 2 minutes in length.
 
Students wishing to audition must complete the audition application form, that can be found here, and return it to Ms. Day or the front office by 3:15 p.m. on Friday, February 3rd. Timeline of Events: 

• Friday, Jan. 31: permission slips due to Ms. Day or office by 3:30

• Monday, Feb 6: audition appointment times sent home with students requesting auditions

• Tuesday, Feb 11 & Thursday Feb 13: auditions are held during enrichment times and after school

• Friday, March 7: notification letters will be emailed to parents of students who auditioned

• Thursday, March 27@6pm:  “Travis Has Talent” Variety Show in the Multipurpose Room

PTA Spotlight

The PTA Board proudly presents our Legislative Action Co-Chairs, Michael Reeder and Adrienne Lynch. Adrienne and Michael have been friends since college (see the third picture above - taken in Austin where they hope you will join them for Rally Day). Michael has two children, including Sloane who is a third grader at Travis. He enjoys playing volleyball and a good afternoon on a patio. Adrienne has a daughter Prudence in Kindergarten. When she’s not advocating for our kids, Adrienne enjoys helping foster pets and travelling. As Legislative Action Co-Chairs, they keep the Travis PTA informed about important legislation up for debate, will attend the Texas PTA Rally Day on February 24, 2025 in Austin (with your help), and provide a voice for Travis students at the Capitol.
